We will be screening La Febbre - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452778/ with Professor Gallippi presenting.
It will once again be at The Pearl Company - http://thepearlcompany.ca/
La Febbre illuminated an issue that occurs in all families: How to live your own life as opposed to that chosen for you by your parents. This is an issue that is quite prevalent in modern day Italy.
ReplyDeleteThere are many young men and women striving to extricate themselves from the apron strings and having great difficulty in doing so due to the dual forces of their parents' strong will and the lack of good jobs.
It was interesting to hear the divergent reactions of the viewers at our screening. Some saw it as extremely depressing: Mario had to alienate his mother and friends in order to find true freedom. Others saw the positive message lesson: those who initially oppose your quest for freedom and the life you want to live eventually adapt to and accept your choices.
The film's use of music highlighted the opposing forces: when Mario was living the life chosen by his parents a funeral march played over these scenes whereas when he met the love of his life, Linda, the upbeat and modern music of Negromaro lifted our spirits.
On the whole, this was a thought provoking film and well worth viewing.
